My tasting philosophy - Taste. Experience. Share.
Wine tasting rules used to be restrictive. Drink white wine with white foods and red wine with red foods. Today, we break the shackles and set our own rules. My wine tasting philosophy is...
Taste anything with anything and try everything.
Wine and cheese - yes, please! What about blue cheese with a white wine? Or a triple cream brie with a red wine? Now add some apricot jam...or how about a jalapeño cherry jam? Spicy Thai food with a French Riesling is divine. But you can also pair spicy shrimp with a light red. Don't believe me? Try it. I could go on and I will in future blogs. Stay tuned for some perfect pairs!
Become a wine explorer. If you like whites, but aren't sure about reds, take baby steps. Try lighter reds like a juicy Pinot Noir or a fruit forward Cabernet Sauvignon. I have a friend that prefers white, but wherever we go she at least tries the reds and sometimes finds reds she likes. Complexity can be found in whites as well as reds. So can simplicity. And so many varietals of rosé with so little time!
Try it. If you don't like it, that's okay. You won't like everything, but you may find more to enjoy. When you find what you like, share it so others will try. Wine was created to be shared.
Tasting with friends.
Spending a beautiful day with friends at wineries enjoying the views, scents, and flavors of wine is a favorite way to relax. We take weekend trips or head out to local wineries.
We meet new wine explorers and make new connections all thanks to this luscious fruit in a bottle.
On a recent exploration, I read aloud wine tasting notes from a wine magazine. Our new explorer friends enjoyed my oration as the creative words come to life. Then we all agreed, "Who writes this stuff? What heck does that mean?"
Those questions led to the launch of this website. Sharing wine tasting adventures with you in a way that helps you taste more, experience more, and share more. Wine tasing with friends may be as close as Bartlo's Backyard, friends' backyards, or even a local restaurant or winery. Who knows? One day I may be in Napa's backyard! I hope you will share your favorites too but know this...I am not a wine critic. I will share my likes, not my dislikes, and I will taste everything.
